EL CONCILIO ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF NEW AND RENEWAL DACA APPLICATION ASSISTANCE

On Monday December 7, 2020, El Concilio welcomed the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announcement that it will be accepting new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program after a judge ordered the Trump administration to restore the program on the previous Friday. According to a release on the DHS website, first-time DACA requests will now be accepted along with renewals. One-year grants of extended action and employment authorization will be expanded to two years.

From the program’s beginning, El Concilio has been at the forefront of DACA outreach, education, and engagement. Over the past ten years, El Concilio has publicly supported the Dream Act and other legislative efforts to allow all those who have grown up in this country to contribute to our nation. We believe that such a course is not only compelling in moral terms, but reflects a necessary and pragmatic acknowledgement of the untenable situation of the Dreamers and the need to provide a clear path that will allow them to lead lives of dignity and purpose in this country.

Since DACA rolled out, El Concilio has assisted more than 2000 DACA applicants with their applications in Stanislaus County, and 1650 DACA applicants in San Joaquin County by garnering the assistance of hundred community volunteers and a small group of pro bono immigration lawyers.

To schedule an appointment for information and assistance with preparing your DACA application, call El Concilio’s Immigration Legal Services at (209) 337-7505.
