• Education & Workforce Development

The San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SJCHCC) believes that education is the cornerstone to rebuilding our region’s economic health and is key to increasing the overall capacity of the Hispanic business community. In addition to creating opportunity for the business community, the Chamber is a leading advocate for education reform. SJCHCC provides programs to help expand college access and awareness and provides a conduit for regional businesses to develop future workforce capacity.

  • Expandng College Access

One of the major barriers to attending college in Latino and minority communities is cost and SJCHCC aggressively promotes college access for all through financial aid awareness. As the creator of the Student Financial Aid and College Awareness Workshop, the Chamber and the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber Foundation work closely to enlist the business community to support the annual program which provide thousands of San Joaquin County students and their families with the information and resources they need to complete the financial aid forms necessary for CalGrants. The program is presented in English and Spanish with over 200 volunteers available to answer questions throughout the day and assist with filling out applications and forms online in computer labs; making same-day submission possible. Workshops are also held for parents and students in grades 6 – 12 to educate them on the importance of college preparation, financial planning, school note taking skills, the value of an education, course selection, scholarship opportunities, and financial literacy.  The 12th Annual Student Financial Aid & College Awareness Workshop will be held January 25, 2015.
